Autopsy not scaling well on 4k display

Postby miket336 » Fri Jan 13, 2017 2:33 pm

Hi guys,

The problem i'm having is when I open autopsy any window that opens such as creating a case are displaying tiny. I have this problem with one other program and after a bit of researching I believe it's to do with "tiny text" issue which is apparently caused by programs that are not optimized for high-DPI resolutions, causing it not to scale well.

Has anyone else had this issue or know of any fixes for this?

Thanks

Mike

I realize this is an old thread by now, but I'm sure this problem will rear its head more and more frequently since HiDPI displays are fast becoming the norm. I thought I'd post some informative links in case other eye-weary Autopsy examiners happen across this way.

Most desktop environments include settings these days for handling HiDPI. More applications are themselves shipping with HiDPI display settings, too, but making use of overall desktop settings is always a good start. Be aware that this isn't a magic bullet. Sometimes you're only able to get text to the size you want, while the icons remain tiny. Other times, resizing text throws off the rest of the UI's geometry. Occasionally you win and everything scales smoothly and you can take full advantage of that expensive monitor investment you've made. Your mileage may vary...

For Windows settings, look here:

For OS X/MacOS, try this:

...or this...

For Gnome 3 on GNU/Linux, look here:

...or KDE...

There are lots more choices for GNU/Linux desktops than Gnome or KDE and solutions to most of these are a simple Google search away.
