How long should it take to add a 34TB disk as a data source?

Postby egi » Tue Jan 12, 2016 3:05 pm

Hi,

I’ve recently erased a large amount of data on a fileserver by (*hum*) performing a rsync the wrong way. Fortunately, most of the data was duplicated on desktop clients. There are, though, some file that we’d like to recover.

After trying various tools such as testdisk, extundelete or ext4magic without success, I’m giving carving a shot. With the help of tsk and autopsy.

I’ve added the disk (through iSCSI) to a windows client, and in turn added it to my brand new case as a data source. As of now, As of now, it has been about 66 hours since I’ve launched the data source wizard, and analysis has yet to begin. There is activity on the RAID, though, and the progress bar is still pulsing.

How long before I should be worried that there is an issue with my setup?
